Father Micah Chisholm and Father Aidan Keller talk about the how to and basics Church Parish planting in Eastern Orthodox Christianity in the USA.
How to successfully start an Orthodox Mission Church Parish…
Father Micah Chisholm was born and raised in Michigan, the son of a Protestant minister. As a young adult he attended a Christian college where he began a pursuit of a deeper expression of the Christian faith. After college Micah worked in full time Christian ministry in the areas of music and youth programming. Following a decade of searching, which included attending a Protestant seminary and working as a pastor in Missouri, he and his wife were introduced to the Holy Orthodox Church and immediately knew that their search had come to an end and that they had found the faith once delivered.
Following their baptism into Christ’s One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church Father Micah and his young family moved back to Michigan. Following the completion of additional theological and priestly formation Father Micah was ordained a deacon on the Feast of the Transfiguration on August 6/19, 2020 and to the priesthood just nine days later on the Feast of the Dormition of the Mother of God.
Since his ordination Father Micah has been assigned as the Rector of St Sebastian Orthodox Christian Church which is located just south of Traverse City, MI. In addition, Father Micah spent one year as the serving priest of St Jacob of Alaska Orthodox Mission in Ishpeming, MI until they were assigned a priest. For the past eighteen months Father Micah, along with former parishioners of St Sebastian Parish, have been laboring for the establishment of St Ambrose Orthodox Mission near Mackinaw City, MI. God willing, this mission will receive a resident priest in the next couple of months. Then, on to the next one…
In addition to serving as a missionary priest in Northern Michigan, Father Micah is the Director of Social Services for the Salvation Army serving three counties in rural Northwest Michigan. H is also the grateful and undeserving husband of his wife Stephanie, with whom he shared six children.
