Another Update from Fr. Jesse at St. Jacob of Alaska Orthodox Christian Mission

November 24, 2025, we continue our Bible Study on Exodus, and this Monday will get into the really juicy parts of the dimensions of the Tabernacle and the priest’s vestments. There is value in everything!
I’m happy to report that our food pantry manager James and his wife advertised our weekly food pantry distribution this past week, for the holiday. Today we had our distribution and it’s the busiest we have ever been! We were completely stocked with food and now are almost entirely empty. Our Pantry Manager James just sent me the numbers: we served 40 households, including 60 children, 20 seniors, and 15 homeless individuals. A total of 120 people! Two elderly ladies, regular clients of ours, wanted to give back and so cooked and packaged 50 Thanksgiving dinners in take-out cartons–turkey, mashed potatoes, and green bean casserole. They ran out less than halfway through the distribution. We estimate that we distributed between 500 and 600 pounds of food in less than one hour. Glory to God!
Fr. Jesse and Reader George
Finally: our Reader George is scheduled to be ordained to the Sacred Diaconate next Sunday, the Feast of St. Sebastian of Jackson, by Vladyka Gabriel of Montreal, in our sister parish of the same name in Traverse City, MI. We are praying for good (navigable) weather! Lord willing and the ordination takes place, George and I will serve Vespers and Divine Liturgy daily at St. Jacob’s from the evening of Monday Dec 1st through the following Sunday, Dec 7. Please pray for Reader George Hunt, his wife Macrina, and his wonderful family (five children 8 and under!). If it seems like I’ve been talking about this for a very long time it’s because I have. His ordination was delayed four times, if I count correctly.
Thank you for all of your work and support!
